There are a variety of massage therapy modalities. Manipulating soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, and tendons) is the basis of all therapeutic massage. At Bodywork & Wellness, I offer full body deep tissue massage. Adhesions, bound up fascia, trigger points, tender points, and muscle tension can cause discomfort and pain the body. Through good communication, we can work together toward releasing the areas you’re experiencing issues with.
Cupping Therapy. Hot Stones. Hot Towels.
There isn’t an additional charge for hot stones and towels and cupping therapy. Their uses are up to you. If you’re unsure, we can try them briefly so that you can decide what you do or don’t like.
Hot stones relax muscles and improve circulation, and they’re soothing. Warm stones gliding across your back is relaxing. A knot in a hamstring or quad normally softens easier when the area has been warmed with hot stones. Stones are heated to 120°, almost hot but below a temp that could cause burns. Safety first.
Hot towels are damp. They’re used in foot massage, reflexology, and on an area larger than stones can cover. Moist heat warms the muscles nicely. Compression and gentle kneading of muscles covered by a hot towel can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time without being uncomfortable. I use it mostly for hamstrings and quads that are especially tight.
Cupping therapy, like massage therapy, is an ancient form of medicine. I use silicone cups in four sizes. The top of the cup is depressed before I place the cup on skin and then released to create suction. Cupping increases circulation to tense muscles and trigger and tender points, and it releases bound up fascia. Static cupping leaves the cup in place for a short time. I generally don’t static cup for more than three to five minutes. My goal is to avoid bruising through gliding cupping and an appropriate amount of suction.
TMJ, also known as TMD and intraoral massage, is used to release trigger points in the mouth and relax muscles in the head, neck, and shoulder areas. It won’t cure TMJ, but it can ease the symptoms and make you more comfortable.
Chair massage is available for upper body work when you aren’t comfortable or are unable to be on the massage table. The chair is always set up in the studio for anyone who needs a short session for tight neck, shoulders, and back. Call for an appointment. Short notice and same day appointments are often available.
